My Progression

Since my Preliminary task, i feel like i have improved greatly in my software, planning and other skills. I feel in my Preliminary i left out a lot of techniques that entice the reader, and i wasn't too happy with it after i had looked back on the project. Since then, my planning and research has improved phenomenally, i now feel like i understand the concept of magazine design and magazine features in a greater depth. For example, i now know what a masthead, cover lines, skyline, dominant image, model credit and puff, and i understand how these things help make magazines work and successful. I also know how these features can be effective when creating  magazine. Since my Preliminary task, i had a few lessons learning about photography and Adobe InDesign which helped massively when creating my magazine.

I am very happy with my Final Pages, i feel like the skills i have learnt, for example; photography skills and software skills, have helped me in creating a realistic magazine front cover, feature article and contents page. I used the  my market research and other peoples feedback to improve the quality of my pages.  The key factor was to make it look realistic so it would appeal to my audience and stand out on the shelf. The thing that i would like to improve on is my time management skills, i feel like i started off slow and that meant i had to catch up, and this is reflected in my work. I also feel like i need to cut down on the amount of text in my blog because it can look quite plain and boring. In my next task,  i will make sure i watch my time management skills as it is a key factor. I am very happy that i have improved my editing software skills

Technology used to create my pages

I used Adobe indesign to create my final pages, it is very east to use and gives you  very professional end product. Its what professionals use to create magazines so this meant we could replicate what it really is like when creating a magazine.

I used Microsoft word and Microsoft PowerPoint to do a lot of the text heavy tasks, this allowed me to alternate between Blogger and Microsoft easily, and this leaned i could layout my blog post better and neater. I also used Powerpoint to screenshot certain images and then uploaded them to blogger, this was fast and easy and very effective.

For my Market Research, i used Youtube, i felt like this was a very popular site and people knew how to use it, so i uploaded video just have different types media on my blog.

I uploaded all of my work to Blogger, It was very useful for keeping all of my blogs and project together. At first i didn't understand it as i was new to blogger and blogging all together, but i learned quickly and adapted to it easily.

To edit my photos, i used Adobe Photoshop, at first i used Fireworks but i felt it didn't have the necessary editing features that Photoshop offers. I felt that this was a good decision because in my opinion, the photos used in my pages look very crisp and professional. I also learned a lot more about Photoshop than i did before.

Attracting My Target Audience

When creating a magazine, you have to make sure that you fulfil the needs of you target audience, otherwise no one will be interested.

My mast head, at first comes across as quite aggressive, its in all cap locks, this suggests that its shouting it at you, Its also very dark colours which fits perfectly with my target audience. One letter of the mast head is a different colour, i did this so i would catch the eye of the reader and hopefully will make them want to pick up the magazine and buy it. I also flipped two letters in the mast head, this made it look different and quirky, i fell like my masthead suits its target audience and appeals to them greatly.

My model, he is dressed in all black, and fashionable clothes, this fits well with my target essence beaches people who will read this magazine will be fashion conscious and so this appeals to them, this colour also contrasts well with the brick wall and white background. Women may find the model attractive, so the model is used for sex appeal throughout the magazine.

The fonts is used throughout out my magazine pages was 'Broadway', its quite a aggressive font, so this will attract my audience, and some of the text is different sizes, this symbolises importance, if something is larger, this means it is more important.

In my contents page, i have mentioned a lot of other artists, this will entice people and will make them want to know more, so they will buy the magazine, and using words like 'new', 'big' and 'upcoming' suggests that their is something exciting in the magazine.

My Audience

Gender

My magazine will appeal to mostly males, as its a grime magazine, its a quite aggressive music genre, the content and words are targeted towards males and the colours are normally associated with men, Red and Black.

Age

My magazine can appeal to any age, but i think it will mostly appeal to people from the age of 16-24, this will be the most popular age of interest with the magazine. People of an C1/2 - B1 as this is a broad variety of people. So they will either be at school/college or being earning an low-average income.

Interests

My magazine will appeal to people who love grime, rap and hip-hop, they will like to party as grime is an popular music choice at parties. My artist is also a massive football so this would attract football fans

Social Groups

My Artist represents my target audience (males aged 16-24). This is because he is in his late teens, 19, so he can relate and fit in with the taregt audience for my magazine. Through this and the way he acts "I am fashion", he is a typical teenager, who is self consious about his fashion sense, and people fo a similar age can realte to him and will enjoy reading about him. The way he speaks is very relateable but doesnt reflect the stereotypical teenage boy however, he speaks witrh dictation and uses gramatically correct sentences with very little slang, and in the grime scene, he will stand out, so people will be intrigued. This will attract the older stem of the target audience and possibly even older. I realised that after spending time wht adults whilst working on his album, he would of learnt things from the adults and gained maturitly - this reflects an intuitive young man and will therefore catch the eye of the older audience. Another way that he will attract teenages is that he is good looking , and the teenage girls 'love' anyone who is good looking is musically talented. So presenting Tom as mature but rebelious, is very similar hopw magazines present JME, who is one of the biggest grime artisits,  so this will attract a wider audinece to his music again.
